Additional Tips
Defining your audience
In thinking about the audience you are addressing, it will help to think of yourself as joining the conversation about Writing Studies in which the authors we’ve read and will read are participating. Your audience, then, consists of a group Writing Studies and Rhetoric researchers, scholars interested in people’s understandings of writing and rhetoric more broadly. You’ll need to keep in mind that while your audience is interested in conversation you’ve chosen to focus on, they are not as familiar with that activity as you are. To help them understand, you’ll need to explain your ideas clearly and define specialized terms, texts, or objects related to the activity.
